House with no loft wall - what to do

I wanted to thank everyone for their advice. Grandpa told his neighbours a simple, calm 'no' and and that seems to have been accepted.

Many years ago we lived in one of a pair of Victorian semis that had an open loft between us and the neighbours. One day, when they were both out of work, I could hear water running. Went round and looked through their window and saw that the carpet was floating, they'd a burst pipe in their loft. This was before the days of mobile phones. I knew one of them worked for a multi national company in London but didn't have a contact number. While I was trying to get hold of them, my other half was able to go up in our loft, through to their's, open their hatch get in to their house and turn the water off. They were very grateful that we had been able to save them from even more damage.
