After sales support on used car
I'm looking to spend around £2K on a small car, probably from an established business seller.
Say I have the car a week, and some issue arises that either renders the car useless, or requires an expensive repair, what are the chances that the garage covers the full cost of this?
Is their generally a limited period whereby they will cover anything that goes wrong with the car mechanically? Or will I be covered by consumer protection anyway?
Ideally, I'd I like to think I wouldn't need to worry about anything going wrong for at least the first 6 months, so just wondering if I'm being reasonable in expecting any problems in this time to be sorted by the garage with a minimum of fuss.
Thanks all

I think you're maybe unrealistic expecting a £2k car to not have any faults in 6 months.
You may be lucky but at that price the dealer has little margin and many parts might be at point of wearing out so not covered by any warranty.
If you bought privately you may find a better value car at that price.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

As above really.
Oldish car, so you are likely to experience some sort of issues with age related wear and tear, which its unlikely a dealer will cover.
The SOGA covers you for "faults", not things like brakes wearing or an exhaust blowing.
And as has already been said, a £2K car from a dealer is really a £1,200 car with the dealers margin added on.
You'll get a better car for your money if you buy privately. Just make sure you're buying from the owner (and ideally they've owned it for a number of years), rather than some trader masquerading as a private seller.0 -
£2k you buy on condition and if thats all the money you have and dont have money to get a good service which may include new brakes etc then spend less or spend the time inspecting the car in minute detail.
I looked at one with a brand new MOT yet the front discs had grooves in that you could measure with a ruler.
I have planted seeds in shallower grooves.
