Bless you all for your lovely posts, words of comfort and support. I feel better now that the funeral has been arranged for next week, the flowers have been ordered, the venue for the refreshments booked, and people informed. And DS will be flying 6000 miles from California on Friday.
I chose the music some weeks ago and wrote the Eulogy, on the basis that if it was needed in a month, a year or 10 years, it was done. We enter to Only You, by The Platters, and we leave by Swing Low, Sweet Chariot by Johny Mathis.
When I read the Eulogy for an old friend some years ago, my DH said on the way home that he'd like me to read his. I said it was one thing doing it for an 80 something friend, and another for a husband. But he said "you'll do it".
It sounded great when I read it a few weeks ago, and my voice sounded confident, strong, and measured. Reading it now that he has passed, is a completely different thing. But I have typed it in large print, double spacing and will ask the Celebrant if he could take over, should I be unable to carry on.
But I'm going to have a damned good try, and if I have to stop, and take a few breaths, I'm unlikely to get booed by the audience, am I! Then with the aid of my 14 year old DGD, we have a photographic tribute, to the tune of Unforgettable by Nat King Cole.
And I'm using Glasgow Theme by Craig Armstrong from Love Actually, for the committal, when the curtains close. A couple of friends who will be unable to come, have viewed all this on my lap top, and didn't just cry, but had tears rolling down their cheeks, so I've just got to give an Oscar winning Eulogy performance, cos it's the last thing I can do for him, and I want to do it right and do it well.
We're having family flowers only, and donations if people wish to do so, to The Alzheimer's Society.

As already said by others, I wish you strength to read the tribute you have written. We too had Unforgettable by Nat King Cole at my father in laws funeral two weeks ago and it seemed such an appropriate and reflective piece of music to listen to. I sincerely hope that the funeral passes smoothly and you gain comfort by knowing that there are many people supporting and thinking of you at this most difficult time. xx0
