I notice you can buy the same private plate number from any website, only the price changes
So my questions are
Who is cheapest for private plates
What are the other costs involved in changing your registration number?
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

The cheapest way is to change your name to match your numberplate

Most of the Number plate sellers are just agents offering on behalf of the owner. Some of them get business by saying they will get a better price than the others?

Cheapest place is from the DVLA direct but these are normally new issue combinations only. This is where I would look first to see if what I wanted was available. For range of choice with dvla the best time is when the new plates come out. Agents then deal with the rest and charge differing amounts to what they think they could get away with. This includes the registration, admin fees, physical plate fees etc. Unfortunately it is the case of looking around as all price differently.

if you just want a dateless / ageless plate then ebay is cheapest. You'll find them from 20 quid upwards. The transfer fee of £80 is the only other cost if you are transferring straight onto a vehicle (rather than placing it on retention for later use).
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

DVLA are not always the cheapest. As with anything you have to compare costs on plate broker sites and check out the fees and charges added on.

My last plate I bought (not for me) was from http://primoregistrations.co.uk/ because they were recommended on Pistonheads. They worked out slightly cheaper than the main reg sites and included a set of number plates.

That site is just for bitter and negative people. I didn't see any [apart from one] that warranted the slack.

Most of the privates where almost non-discerning. Apart from BO55 RAY (and that could easily be non private).

Northern Ireland dateless plates consisting of 3 letters and 4 numbers are cheap and cheerful - prices start at £19.99 plus the £80 transfer fee.

All of them will have the Letter Z or I in them and double letters or double numbers will cost more of course.

Here just one example on eBay:

I have no connection to this seller at all apart from being a happy customer in the past. :)

I tried DVLA first and just to check I found a number on sale for £299 and searched for that exact plate on a different sitw and it quoted £220 along with "cheapest price guaranteed"

Hence I conclude the number is irrellevant its just who is cheapest? Not DVLA is all I can say for absolutel sue

Not the cheapest, forcing me to buy plates from them for £20 which I can buy separately for £10 elsewhere.

have a look at that thread from yesterday, you will see that the agents advertise the plates cheaper than the DVLA but then add all sorts of extras that bump up the price to way above the price that you would pay the DVLA
