Thank you all for your lovely ideas. l hadn't thought of Lanzarote so will have a look and see what deals they have.

I have had a couple of Christmas holidays in the Canaries, On Gran Canaria Christmas eve was the day when quite a lot of restaurants closed early so the staff could be with their families.
Christmas day was business as usual and a very nice steak dinner for me.
Los Cristianos/las Americas on Tenerife was similar although there were more English style Christmas dinners available. Booking for one of these seemed essential.
That time we had an excellent Chinese feast!0 -
If the Canary area is being considered have a look at Madeira. Pleasant weather and plenty to see and do.0

We went to playa blanca, lanzarote, for the new year last year. It was lovely. About 23 degrees and sunshine all week. Everything was open and news years eve on the resort front was brilliant. Hoping to go again this new year0

Hi
I am looking for ideas for my husband's 50th birthday on Christmas Day and thought as it is only going to be the 2 of us this year it would be nice to go away. He will only be able to have 10 days off at the most.
It would be nice to go somewhere warm but that isn't the most important factor. We like to explore new places so not just looking to sit by a pool all day.
I did think about the USA as we have never been there and l know some places are warmer than others but does everything close down for the holidays?
Many thanks for your ideas.
You could visit my in-laws and save me the trouble, it's always warm the heating is usually turned up full (he's an ex- banker!)
(and they have no pool.)Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)0 -

Thanks but that's part of the reason for going away. We took care of my Dad for almost 10 years and this is the 1st Christmas without him and we aren't looking forward to itStash Busting Challenge 2016 6/520 -
