The V5 shows the registered keeper. The purchase receipt shows who owns the vehicle.
Presumably, the OP bought the car as (s)he has the credit in his name.[/QUOTE]
The purchase receipt will have a date way in the past i'd imagine. This is proof the car was purchased on that date, but who's to say (s)he hasn't sold it on since then or gifted it?
As soon as the Police see there's no evidence of it being taken by force and stolen they'll treat it as a civil dispute.
If you then break the windows on it they might not push for criminal damages but something else like breach of the peace or disorderly conduct etcAll your base are belong to us.0 -
Note for the future, never, ever, not ever, lend money to people who can't pass credit checks. There is a reason why they can't.
Your comment is very ignorant and very naive. Many people have an adverse credit status genuinely through no fault of their own or through a sudden change of circumstances which was out of their control.
So basically plonk everybody with a bad history in the one category is very ignorant of life.
It's not for you to judge whether op did or didn't do the right thing when agreeing to have the finance in his name at the time, especially since we don't know why she is late with the payment or why her credit history is adverse.0 -

Have somebody with a trailer drag it on with a winch.
Or remove a couple of wheels and leave the car on axle stands - will immobilise it until she gets a second spare wheel at least.0 -

:T My cousin for example, in the navy, decent money (more than me), couldn't get a loan to get a new car as old one cost more to repair than worth, money saved went towards his wedding. Checked his credit report, all good, problem? Wasn't on the electrol roll! So had to apply through Amigo loans with me a guarantor.0 -

She could state the car was given to her as a gift and she may call the police. She has the car and keys so seems reasonable. Being the registered keeper isn't proof of ownership.
Police won't be interested. He has all the paperwork. They'll just say it's a civil matter and walk away. She can sue him if she thinks she's got a case.0 -
Trailer with a winch is the best bet I did it recovering rental cars which were overdue. Try conning her to go out on foot somewere and away you go.0

Some of you must have gone through messy spilt ups. I'm guessing the car is worth a lot more than the outstanding finance? And she paid you cash each month to cover the direct debit. And it's insured in your name? If not, at best you end up with a car worth less than you'll have to pay, at worse she does take you to court, repeats the story you told us, clearly shows she's paid, insured, maintained it, and the rest was just a paperwork exercise by a couple at the time, and you also get done for criminal damage, or theft. All because she's a week late?0
