Egg credit card debt vanished... why?

Hi there to you all. MSE has been helpful by just reading for such things as credit repair and PPI claims but i cant find any relevant info on this subject.

I had a debt with an two egg credit cards (one EGG green and the other EGG blue) I'm not 100% sure when they date back to but i know it was around 2004/2005

EGG green was being collected by Moorcroft Debt Recovery and EGG Blue by Fredrickson International. Both cases i entered into an agreement (with frozen interest) for repayments and i am currently still repaying the EGG blue.

In March 2013 I received a letter from Moorcroft Debt Recovery stating they were no longer responsible for the collection activity on this account as the account had been handed back to the client (then and now Barclaycard) and all future correspondence should be directed to them.
I rang Moorcroft to find out why this had happened and they didn't know and said i should contact Barclaycard. Well my logic said i don't need to chase after a debt of over £7000 as they will contact me however they did'nt!
Still to this day over a year has passed and i have heard nothing at all, no money is being taken from my bank account for the EGG green card (put payments are still being collected for the EGG blue card) and there is no record of either debt on my credit file.
The only explanation i can come up with is this;
I remember discovering the card (EGG green) had PPI attached (which i hadn't asked for, i know this as i have never asked for PPI and had several settlements given) right at the time i was struggling due to an injury and i contacted EGG to make a claim on the payment protection insurance and it was rejected on the grounds that i had not made the claim soon enough following my injury. All i can think is due to all the PPI miss selling that went on the debt was written off because either;
a) My insurance claim should have been upheld and wasnt or
b) A claim against EGG for the miss selling of PPI on this account would amount to more than the debt owed.
Both my possible explanations seem highly unlikely but there has to be a reason for it and I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this.
I do realise that a phone call to Barclaycard would probably result in an answer my to question but forgive me for not wanting to contact a credit card company asking why they have stopped taking money off me and appear to have lost/written off a 7k debt!

Many Thanks

    We could guess at the reasons too if you like...

    Some may even post their guesses below ;)

    Who knows. I once owed 2k to natwest on a student overdraft. I moved house and never heard anything again. That was 11 years ago. Never put anything on my credit file with any of the agencies.

    Bizarre

    Any defaults would drop off your credit file after 6 years anyway.

    Don't question it ;)

    Barclaycard Platinum £5,200 [08-2015]
