Credit file and current address

Despite having what I believe to be a good credit rating I have been struggling to get a new credit card. I have checked my credit file and all seems good. I have had a fair bit of credit over the past few years and there has been no repayment problems. However, I moved to a new rented flat about 9 months ago and this address shows as a linked address but my current address was still my previous address and I think this may be the problem. Would I be right in thinking this, would this address being wrong cause so much of a problem?
I did a bit of research and I believe that this address is set by the electoral role. I did an application on the government website and my council wrote to me 3 weeks ago to say I am now on the electoral role at my new address. However, as yet my credit file has not updated with any of the agencies. Do I need to tell them to update this or will it happen automatically?
Many thanks

It will happen automatically.
Not being on the electoral roll at your current address can be a significant barrier to being accepted for credit.
The address on your credit file is set by you when you order your file from the credit reference agency (or update your file if you have an ongoing membership with the credit ref agency).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
