Switching from car to motorbike

It doesn't have to cost a fortune.
I ride a Honda PXC 125 on my full car licence and CBT.
The scooter cost £2600 new, on 0% finance, soon to be fully paid off. I get well over 100 mpg and spend £3 - £4 a week on petrol.
Insurance for my second year was £200 fully comp, garaged (high risk area). Tax £17.
My kit consists of,
Textile jacket, Akito with removable fleece lining £80.
Textile trousers, Oxford, again with removable lining £80.
Helmet, HJC with built in, flip down sun visor £130.
Gloves, Akito £30.
Motor bike socks and balaclava from Aldi.
This, so far, has seen me ok through the last year, summer and winter.
I use my steel toe cap work boots which are OK on a twist and go, but not for geared bikes.
My commute is only relatively short and on 30-40mph roads, so a 125 is perfectly viable.
After riding for 15 months I have worked out my break-even point to be about Christmas, after that I am saving money on using the car.
I don't want to go up to anything bigger, it is purely a means of transport and I am not interested in "biking".
I will have to consider my options next year when my CBT is up for renewal on whether to renew CBT, go for full licence, or if it is cheaper and quicker just go for my A1 licence.0 -
I'm another who bought a Honda pcx 125 last June. Its now done 11k miles, never missed a beat.
My round trip commute is 44 miles. Average of 122mpg over last 6k miles now its warmer this has been creeping up 128mpg last few tanks.
Maintenance adds up every 2.5k if you are not doing it yourself. I still have my car for winter and for journeys further afield0 -
In the cold my visor immediately mists up when I go below 20mph(yes I have tried every magic fluid there is) unless I hold my breath
Some good helmets now come with a Pinlock insert for the visor (a bit like double-glazing) which has transformed winter riding for me. I can sit at traffic lights in pouring rain with the visor down and not mist up at all. Before I discovered Pinlock, I used to ride everywhere with the visor open half an inch, even in summer, and my eyes watered constantly. For me, the best safety and comfort accessory ever made.
There is no magic fluidIf someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
