Energy Reconnection - left garden unsafe

Hi, looking for help!

I woke up Thursday 6am with no electricity. Was impressed with SP Energy to have an engineer in 40 minutes and men on site in another hour to fix the cable going to the house that was broken.

The it kicked off. At 11am I spoke to the supervisor who, told me he was doing me a favour by reconnecting as we had a built steps over the cable. I have argued that point because

1. I have a building warrant for the work
2. I have an electrical test certificate form other works that happened at that time showing the supply was good
3. It was four years ago they were built

This is the condition they have left the property in. They agree it is unsafe and I am still waiting, 2 days later for someone to make it safe

[Sorry couldn't post pics as new forum user]

I am step 1 of their complaints process and it could take 8 weeks to exhaust this until I get to ofgem.

I really need advice on what to say to sipped, things up and hopefully get them to rebuild my steps! Are there any laws or codes of practice they should be adhering to?

Or anything that can help!

As far as I can tell from looking online, none of these points are relevant. You needed to have obtained permission from the distributor to build over the supply cables or arranged to have them moved (at your cost).
  • My neighbours applied for planning permission to extend the house into the drive at the side, similar to some other houses in the street. The other houses didn't have a main sewer running under the drive though, so they were given permission on the condition that the water company could demolish the extension at any time they needed access, and leave the owners to rebuild at their own expense.

You will get a bill for the repair.

Time to check your insurance policy.

You may be able to pass the cost onto your builders
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
