When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning :D Happy weekend to you all. Arrrggghhhh I'm heading into my 2nd and last week of my holiday - hope it doesn't go too quickly!

Today we are taking dd & dgd to the zoo for dgd's birthday. Will not be cheap but the tickets become year long passes so hopefully they will get a lot of use!

Had a bit of a lay in as dgd stayed with dd last night, got up at 6 rather than 5!

DFW things for today:

* [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]do end of month accounting/budget for coming month. Going to do this in a minutes with a cup of coffee![/STRIKE] feel sooooo much better for doing this & knowning where we are with everything! Despite not doing it last month :o and all of the expenses over this month accounts not looking bad :T half hour of pain to just know where we are!
*[STRIKE] a couple of surveys in onepoll to do[/STRIKE]
* make packed lunch to take with us & a flask of coffee!
* continue doing garden - starting to look good :D
* sand the stairs skirting boards - must do this today as oh is doing 2nd coat of paint tomorrow
* water plants
* [STRIKE]write letter this morning[/STRIKE] & post before lunchtime

  • Morning all.
    Jobs for this weekend include:
    Skipping the laundry - it's raining so saving it for a sunny day so I don't use the tumbler. A sunny day will come again won't it? Please say yes.
    Also going to try the month slow cooker/freezer challenge. Going to buy chop and freeze ingredients for dinners for the slow cooker for the next month.
    I will let you know how that goes.
    Also got work do to, including raising a few invoices for work completed this month which always feels good.
    Finally, going to avoid a local medieval market which is on today in town. Quite sad to be missing this as it is always such great fun, but also a place to overspend and impulse buy. I will get together some things for ebay instead.
    Have a great week everyone.

    Morning all,
    Just a few bits from me today:
    *Used coffee loyalty card for a free cup so managed to get a decent coffee in town for 75p each. Made do with the 'free' biscuit instead of buying cakes!
    *Visited local market for our fruit & veg. £2 over budget but am fine with that as it included some ingredients to do some preserving next week & preserves often get used for gifts too.
    *Used voucher for 2 x 400g bags cat biscuits at local pet shop. One variety was 'get 800g for price of 400g, so I had that, making it 1.6kg of cat biscuits for free. Very welcome as new cat is a bit of a hoover.
    *Bought 3 mags from the magazine man on the market - 3 for £2.50. Often they are only the previous month's edition, so great for a cheap treat.
    *Water veggie garden & check for any problems.
    Think that'll be it. Going out tonight but the only cost will be petrol.
    Hoping to sit in the garden & read or knit this afternoon as the rain has stopped.
    Have a good weekend, everyone,
    F x
    2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Take a good book, packed lunch/snacks, sit back and enjoy someone else doing the driving. Hope you have a lovely holiday.

    Hello All, busy day in the ss house.

    Today I have walked dogs. Young dog started pestering to go out at 5.22am. Why can she not understand weekends! Made her wait until 6.30 and took her for a good hours walk. Older dog is usually in bed, feet in the air, do I have to go out, why are you being so cruel? But not today, he was on a mission - so I ended up doing another 45min walk.

    Then I did some DFW car insurance renewal research. Very time consuming. But think we have a good plan to save. Renewal date is 23rd, when we both get paid, so I may try and pay the annual fee instead of a monthly payment plan and save a few quid.

    Then I walked to town and had my hair cut for the first time since February. It was so good. My lovely hairdresser (been cutting my hair for decades) knows I need value for money and cuts it so carefully that it can grow and still look fine.

    Back home to the paperwork sort out - a work in progress. We do so much online but still seem to have loads of paper.

    Then we sat in the garden and had a beer. The pigeons have been quite restrained - just preening and smootching - which is good.

    Been rainy today, good for the garden but not for laundry. I have just put a load in and will check the forecast and see if it's OK to hang out overnight. Son2 has 1 white shirt (which he needs for work) and he worked yesterday, today and is working Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday! I have ordered an extra shirt online.

    Hope you are all having a good weekend x
