Tax credits and problem with p60

Our tax credits finished in March (daughter turned 20 beginning of April) but we still need to give figures from work, due the end of this month.

We are having serious problems getting my husbands p60. We have phoned them about four times, I have also emailed them asking for p60 or even a copy of his last wage slip for the year and just not getting anywhere.
We haven't got his wage slips because they are very lax at sending them, otherwise I would of used that.

I am very stressed over this, especially as the child tax people are saying we have an overpayment which they have the paper work for but we may still have an overpayment with hubbies wages. I'm really panicking because you can face a fine of up to £3,000 for not sending in the details.

We just don't know what to do.

To quote HMRC - an employer must supply a P60 by 31st May either on paper or electronically. You could try asking HMRC what they have on record or telling the employer that that is what you will have to do if they don't supply the paperwork. With real time reporting now in force HMRC should have all the figures anyway for someone who is employed rather than self employed.

Thank you. I put that in my email and about the fact that if we ask for that information they are obliged to give it to us.

Think we will try to find out when this person will be in and go to the office that day, failing that we will have to go to the HMRC and hope we can get sorted out that way, didn't know they could give us the information just thought you could only get it from the employer.

Have you tried calling the tax credits people? Often the employer has reported the figures to HMRC (which the tax credits line can access) even if they haven't given staff a P60. If it's there you'll be able to finalise the tax credits award on the basis of that reported figure (if you agree with it) and then you can chase up the employer for the P60 at your leisure.

    Sorry, very late in replying.
No reply from the letter that I wrote, so went back to cab, she suggested going to acas. I phoned them, they couldn't help and told me to phone hmrc.

They told me to write a letter to themselves (hmrc), with all the details that they needed as they had nothing on their records. So now, just waiting to see what is going to happen.
