Provident won't remove default on my credit file!!!,

Hi, hoping someone can help me. I agreed to get a loan for a family member, they left me with the debt. I've been paying it for 3 years now through providents debt collection agency, they've put it as a default on my credit file, I've spoke to the debt collection agency they said they can't remove it and to speak to provident about it, I did so but they have point blank refused to remove it even though I'm paying it off with no missed payments. This is the only thing that is bringing my credit score down! Any ideas on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

If you defaulted on the contractual agreement then your credit file is an accurate record of your history. Defaults will drop after 6 years.
  • So there's no way around this?

If you did default then they are not likely to remove it.

Keeping to a payment arrangement with a collection agency does not undo the default.

Your story doesn't quite add up. You would not be dealing with a debt collection company had you not defaulted on the original loan, yet you imply that no default has happened.

If all payments are being made on time, then why is a DCA involved?

If the loan was in your name then I'm afraid you are responsible for it. Presumably the family member could not get the credit themselves?
