BT Openzone cancellation?

Hey, everyone. I hope you can help me with this?
I signed up to a BT Openzone contract, it's 18 month. I'm currently about 3 months into it.
The wifi hotspot I log into worked fine for ages, that's why I decided to sign up to a contract, £15 a month is a lot cheaper than what it was costing me. I used to log in during work time so I could stream music during my night shifts.
Thing is, it stopped working about 4 weeks after I signed up. So I went to cancel my account and it says on the BT site that I can cancel but I'd still be charged the £15 a month for the remainder of my contract.
Personally I don't think that's right, the reason I signed up doesn't work.
I e-mailed BT and they said that because it isn't one of the 'recognised' hotspots, like at a McDonalds etc, there's not a lot I can do, or they can do.
Is that right? I'm paying for a service that I'm not receiving. I wasn't told in any previous correspondence with BT (who originally suggesting this plan) that there's a difference between hotspots.
Thanks in advance

Tell them that and see what happens. Otherwise you're in a contract and will need to pay.
You could possibly sell it independantly 4 a small loss too? Just sell the access codes. Don't now whether you can but just an idea0 -

The service you are paying for is still available... just not from the hotspot you used to use.0 -
Am I right in thinking this works just by BT broadband customers getting their routers opened up to Openzone/BT Wifi customers?
So you could have been using someone's hotspot who's decided independently to move to a different ISP, not much BT can do about those, could change daily.0 -
I'm only paying £13.50 (no line rental) for 6meg Orange Broadband0

OK there's no internet at work, but I'd be surprised if it didn't have a phone line.
Set up a internet only account, get the router & paperwork sent to his home & take the router to work & take home at the end of his shift & no body at work will know.0 -

Pretty sure that wouldn't work with broadband.
OP, not of any help now, but you could have got a MiFi device with a data-only SIM, assuming mobile coverage is ok at work. Your £15pm would have got you 10Gb with '3' for example.0
