BACS Paid Into Closed Account

Hi - looking for some advice on a banking issue I’m having where I’m getting passed back and forward between my bank and employer.

My employer sent one of my expense claims via BACS payment to a closed account i held with my pervious bank 3 years ago (my fault the wrong account was selected!)

Made several phone calls to the bank and when in branch and the have no record at all of this. My employer had ran a BAC's trace which confirmed it hit my account on 07/05 and still hasn’t been sent back.

My bank are now saying the likelihood is its in a holding account and will eventually be sent back.....they just don’t know when. Its been almost 2 months now.

is there any time limit or regulation in which my old bank (Halifax) has to return the payment ? Or was the person i spoke to at the bank just fobbing me off and i need to chase again?

Did you owe the bank any money when the account was closed? if not I'd try a written complaint, they seem to be dealt with by more experienced/better trained staff.

In time the money will be returned. Suspense accounts hold thousands of transactions that manually have to be shifted through and resolved.
