A choncon d'inde (or however it's spelt) is a guinea pig.

I don't want to know what Pete is doing with a horse and the said guinea pig (or a bathroom!!)

I think someone has misinformed him on the translation
Always on the look out for a bargain. :smileyhea Thanks if you've helped me bag one.
  • Homemade quiche, using whatever veg is in season, asparagus, red pepper, red onion add some creme fraiche and fresh herbs to make it extra luxy.
Cold salads, cous cous with sultanas and herbs, tabbouleh, new potato sour cream and chive salad, if it's not veggie, top quality sausages baked in the oven with 1/2 a jar of cheap marmalade (Aldi) until gooey and golden.? enough ideas I could provide lots more.

You seem to have the main course(s) sorted out.
For a lovely non-alcoholic drink serve Strawberry Daiquiri. (Google for the recipe). Serve with fresh strawberries.

(This is my very first post in the Forum!! Wow!! :D )

Not offended, no apology needed, I am a monoglot and deeply ashamed of it!! Thanks for the correct translation-I'll change it now. Or I may stick with the horse in the bathroom.....

Thanks for all your help. The picnic went really well. Ended up with lots of stuff from your suggestions and a few things I invented which turned out all right (Mushroom and onion pasties with a few spices in-nicer than it sounds!!). Ended up with everyone stuffed and enough left over to feed me, the wife, and child 1 for a couple of days. Fantastic result! :T

    Wrong translation there too...

bathroom is salle de bain not cochon d'inde. Therefore:
ton cheval est dans ma salle-de-bain
votre cheval est dans ma salle-de-bain

both non-sensical though - my French boyfriend couldn't make head nor tail of it!

Cochon d'Inde = Guinea Pig. Maybe there's something we don't know (or wish to know) about the horse, NZ

    Chickpea salad
    Onion
    Chick peas
    lemon
    parsley (if you like)

fry off onion slowly till golden, add tin of chickpeas (it is more economical to buy dried and soak in water plus they dont have as much salt & sugar). take off heat, you can serve warm or cold with a squeeze of lemon and some parsley.

bread mix's are around 60p and make two small loaves by just adding water.

    Stuffed Peppers
    sweet red pepper
    onion
    tuna
    balsamic vinegar
    olive oil

mix tuna, fresh onion, balsamic and olive oil. Stuff it in the peppers and bake off. Put some cheese on top too if you like.

    Sardine yum bake
    tin sardines in tomato sauce
    onion
spoon of tomato paste or harissa

mix above and then layer on top with par boiled potato slices to make a pie type dish

I would also do a pasta with what I had inthe fridge and a frittata with sdome courgette etc.

    Happy picnis!
  • Try roasting baby potatoes in skins. Spray with oil, add salt and pepper. When cooked toss in butter with mint sauce in. Delish! biggrin.gif Can have them hot or cold.
PS. The only french I recall is "un paraplui"(sp). confused-smiley-013.gif I like to impress people with that- or the fact that paperclips are called trombones in France.laughing-smiley-014.giflaughing-smiley-014.giflaughing-smiley-014.gif
    Enjoy the picnic.
    xx

Can we all stop speaking french, as we seem to be doing it very badly! Sous= underneath, dans = in

the horse is in the guinea pig, according to Pete. Very scary thought.;)
