Recycling computer and old laptop help

I have two old laptops, one doesn't work and is too expensive to fix and one has so many lines on the screen I can hardly read it. I also have inherited my dad's computer which is so slow and not really worth messing about with. Does anyone have advice for recycling them. I have used a well known search engine but to recycle them for reuse they seem to have to be less than 3 years old. I want a hassle free solution I guess, anyone help please?

When the "rag and bone" people come by give it them.

Freecycle it. It'll be gone today.

Personally, I'd remove the hard drives and either keep them yourself or destroy them. Too much personal information can be retrieved from them

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Thanks I did think of local dump and would remove hard drives but when I searched there seemed so many options including community projects etc I thought someone may know a better way.

I agree with HappyMJ. Freecycle them. I check my local Freecycle page regularly and you normally see old computer parts being taken very quickly by hobbyists or community groups. Keep the hard drives though, you can use those as back up storage for yourself

A slow machine can be brought up to speed within an hour. See the sticky.

    Google for DBAN.

Burn the software to a CD, then run it from the CD. It will wipe the hard drive and means you can give them away.

If the non stating one is a windows issue, DBAN should be able to start as its Linux and wipe the drive, alternatively put the drive int he functioning machine and wipe it that way.
