Faulty product, postage refunded?

Hi,
for locking the front gate to my stable yard...
bought x2 heavy duty Marine, long shackle padlocks
on 12th Juney 2014
Online purchase from online shop
paid by debit card
On around the 30th June, padlock would not unlock. tried WD40 etc and nothing worked. I had to let my customers in, so had to crow bar the padlock... thus ruining it completely.
I called the supplier who said would speak to manager but no one replied.
Put second lock on the gate. It broke down in exactly the same way and we had to crow bar it top open the gate. Again, lock is ruined.
I called the company again (two days after first call). Told them I want my money back as cannot rely on this product again. After pushing the point with the manager, she said they would refund me in full, the original £53.82. I asked about the postage i would have to pay to return it, will they be refunding that? They said no. I pushed the point and said would contact the Ombudsman and she said they would refund it. I asked for an email from her to confirm what they are offering. Received and it states they will refund the full original price (including P&P when first purchased.) I wrote again to point out that i will have to spend about £5 - £8 on postage sending it back. They have not responded.
How can I get them to pay this postage? I could send it without postage but then not sure they will pay the postage upon receipt and they may refuse to refund me at all thereafter.
Please advise asap as need to send them off ...
thank you

- What did you buy?
- When did you buy it?
- Where from? (internet or in store - it DOES make a difference)
- How did you pay? (cash/cheque/debit card/credit card etc)
- What went wrong?
- What are the vendors telling you?
- What solution or remedy are you looking for? (Companies may Repair / Refund / Replace)

When you said you had to break it to let your customers in, are you a business/did you purchase these for business use?
If so the rights you have are different and not as extensive as consumer rights. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
