'premium' heating oil

Hi

Is it worth the extra cost to use premium grade heating oil?

I'm fairly new to oil boilers, my last fill I was recommended to use premium as it was supposedly 'better' for the boiler.

I have a firebird combi, its about 4 years old. Manual says to use kerosene 28 sec, which as I understand it is bog standard heating oil.

Any advice please.

Use what your boiler maker recommends - not what your oil supplier makes the most profit from.

Be careful with premium heating oil it will contain additives that may damage the boiler. Ask to see evidence they have tested it.

Depending what the 'premium' consists of, it is generally of benefit only with oil Agas or similar.

There are no industry approved test results proving these addiives genuinely improve performance or consumption. They are very similar to the additives marketed to car owners which claim to improve fuel consumption and/or protect the car engine which also have no independant scientific tests to validate the claims....

But if you are interested, PM me - I have an additive you can put in your tank which I sell at £5 per [STRIKE]wee[/STRIKE] bottle.
