Sabre/Drive Smart Insurance problem

I took out a policy with the above company as my daughter is 21 and still learning to drive. They offered a good deal as she has the car fitted with a telematics box. What they fail to tell you is that when you drive on rural roads you obviously drive slower because of the very nature of the road so Sabre penalise you for going too slow and they also claim this causes congestion! So now we are in the position nearly 4 months on where our driving score is so low they will ask for more money because we drive so "badly". We also register as driving on unfamiliar roads despite only ever driving the same route to work or the shops etc and never on unfamiliar roads. We can't win and they refuse to provide me any evidence about how they work out their ludicrous terms. We drive safely on rural roads only and we can not change the score because they refuse to acknowledge the bare facts. Has anyone else had issues with them because im at my wits end with the pack of liars!

What lies have they told you?
Why did you select drive on unfamiliar roads if you dont?
Driving slower on a road is sometimes essential, But i covered lots and lots of miles as a HGV driver and someone doing 30mph on a 60mph road was not uncommon. Even in the lorry i would normally be doing 40mph with no danger.
The problem is cars coming up behind who are doing closer to 60 think its me holding them up and get a sudden shock when they realise there is a car in front of me thats the issue.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Look back carefully over the terms and conditions you signed upto.
Unfortunately this is the downside to these insurance policies.
You dirve to their standards. if they think going too slow on a road is a risk then your levied a fee, if they think you brake to harshly or too softly they levy a fee, if you drive certain roads all the time them deviate from that telematics rout they consider it a unfamiliar rout to which your more likely to be a risk they levy another fee and so this how they can offer a low insurance base, then rack up the fee's which could go further than what a normal insurance policy would be worth.0 -
Just wondered what happened after four months?
My daughter has her first policy with drivesmart and only three weeks in her score is very low as most of her journeys are short and familiarity is also poor.
Anyone had any experience with drivesmart charging more money?0 -
Hello there , I have the same problems as the OP , I have just emailed Drivesmart to cancel my policy as I think their standards are very unrealistic0

If this turns out to be correct then I'm gonna buy a big bag of popcorn and watch Drivesmart implode!
It'll open a whole can of worms!
I'm gonna look into this..be back shortly0 -
How does the telematics box know what is in front of a car. If the rural roads are like the ones I drive on, one could come up behind a tractor every few miles (and that's assuming you can overtake the first one!) Also, how do insurance companies and telematics boxes believe you will gain experience unless you drive on an unfamiliar road for the first time!!! You could be the world's most experience driver but when you go on the B1415 (for example) it is unfamiliar if it is the first time you have driven on it!
BTW, if you'd left it 2 more days it would have been the anniversary of the opening of this thread.0 -
Stanley2012,
Can you post up redacted versions of the correspondence you have received from Sabre. It appears much of it is only available upon policy inception.
Much of what Atrixblue has said is true but acceptance of a non negotiable policy which blatantly defies reasonableness (for example, speeding is a choice, being stuck behind a tractor is not) is challengeable in many ways.
It'll be interesting to see what comes out in the wash with this.0 -

By the looks of things OP is not the only one with problems.0
