So we have just recently moved house. Our bedroom had fitted wardrobes in the new house and the new house doesnt (at present we are living out of suitcases!!)
Who would people recommend to get fitted wardrobes from? Ikea, B&Q or any others?

I've made wardrobes with the Stanley sliding door system, in 3 of our moves. B&Q do an own brand version, too. Bought when there was 15% discount weekends at Homebase, but timed when the doors were on offer, too, so only a couple hundred pounds.
Friend priced up the Ikea ones, which look nicer and are taller, plus lots bits n pieces to make a proper system. Would have been about £700 for what she wanted.
However she went with independent, who would measure, install and do a very nice job, considering her floors were uneven and walls/ceilings not level either (old house) and window to be avoided, so lots of awkward bits to consider. Cost £2200 for about 2metres of alcove.

This brings back memories. I was short of space & planned for a built in wardrobe due to lack of storage in my old house. As a stop gap I fitted a broom handle across the alcove. Six years later we moved house and the broom handle "system" was still there...My £2 savings total for 2007 = £92, for 2008 = £124
My savings from money off coupons for 2007 = £67.97, for 2008 = £194.79
My £2 savings for 2009 (so far) = £130
My savings from money off coupons for 2009 = £593.08

when we moved £££ was short and I got ikea pax wardrobed fitted in a few bedrooms. That was 3 y ago. They were fitted properly with coving above etc to give a fitted look. Still going strong and was money well spent.
Subsequently have spent way more in another bedroom getting custom made stuff. You can tell the difference, the quality was just much better than the PAX however, it was a luxury. The ikea stuff was excellent value and very functional esp for kids bedrooms0 -
I got wardrobes from fitted wardrobe world, they also have a sister branch for sliding door systems.
The kit supplied was similar to what the old MFI used to do, flat packed.
Finish was good, however you will need a fair bit of DIY skill and a crystal ball when deciphering instructions!! I had to do a fair bit of wood butchering as my ceilings are lower than standard and this meant some modifications to the fittings. Well achievable though.
The after sales is brilliant, I dealt through Amanda who was fantastic, some dealing can be negotiated.
Over all, very satisfied with the finish, the product and the firm.0
