Telephone psychics

Hi, am new here today and wondered if anyone can help.

My friend has recently used a psychic phone line advertised in a down market 'women's mag'. The calls are listed at 49pence per minute. She has just received her bank statement and the call line has debited £90 from her account, which equates to her being on the phone to them for just over 3 hours. Although she knows she used the line a couple of times she is 100% sure she has not accumulated 3 hours of calls.

Is there anything she can do to query this. She is naturally feeling rather gutted and regretful of ever using the 'service'.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

I don't understand how the psychic debited the bank account - surely the bill would be charged by your phone company?

I can only assume that your friend gave payment details over the phone to the psychic (and no, the psychic did not "get them from the aura"). If so, you should have been told what the payment was for. I'd tell the bank this is an unauthorised transaction.

Was this a line where she called a local rate number and paid by credit/ debit card? If so, it may be a case that she has bought a 'bundle' of minutes to use instead of paying by the minute.

Most of these 'services' have to have a customer care line. Have her google them to find it an phone them - they can't charge you to call the customer care line.

I know it is hard to do as she is your friend, however, as a good friend I recommend you point out how much of a scam these things are.

The large bill was due to unforeseen circumstances...
