There's a thing on Martin's Twitter (feed is on the right) asking if anybody's having the same problem.
Edit: Well, there was, seems to have disappeared/been removed now.
But it's "not just you" anyway..... which is always nice to know.0 -

Nationwide now showing problems with fasterpayments, and online banking on status page. Hope its sorted soon.0 -
They are down again this morning, Sunday, for pre-planned maintenance which they 'anticipate' will be completed by 10.00am.
They also state that they will be doing maintenance regularly at these times;
12am - 6am on Sunday
12am - 6am on Wednesday
Diabolical, uncaring company. Pity as for many years they were excellent.0 -
Diabolical, uncaring company.
What a strange conclusion to draw from the fact that a company announced maintenance times for their IT systems. Even the handful of people who need to do their online banking between 12am and 6am will surely find it possible to work around these downtimes twice a week?0 -

Absolutely.
All systems need maintenance so they are choosing the window of least disruption but some people will still have minor inconvenience. They have been flagging it every time I logged in over the last week or two though.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I have just tried logging on and online banking is down (at 11.30am) and it is more than a minor inconvenience.0

To be fair to Mr Tech101, I see nothing to suggest that he reached his conclusion solely for that reason as is being assumed. He may have had other quite unrelated reasons. What a strange conclusion to draw from the fact that a company announced maintenance times for their IT systems.
On the other hand, to describe one of the few remaining building societies as "diabolical", at least in the literal sense, whatever his reasons would seem a tad OTT. Would seem a bit severe for even the most obnoxious company (apart from the Daily Mail obviously).0 -
Actually they were back online at 11.55am but just now they declare "We’re making improvements to your Online Bank which means we need to suspend the service from 00:01 on Sunday 20 July. We anticipate this will be resumed by 13:30 the same day".
The diabolical bit was inspired by press reports re several extended downtimes on Nationwide Online this year, frequent glitches within the site itself, the CEO receiving £2.3m bonus, and more. I could go on but the Daily Mail's already covered it.0 -
Then the Daily Mail seem to be a little inconsistent judging from this article a few weeks ago:I could go on but the Daily Mail's already covered it.
"430,000 quit banks for building society: More than 1,000 people a day reject scandal-hit firms to open current accounts with Nationwide...
Some 1,200 new current accounts are being opened daily at Nationwide alone, as customers reject rotten service, punitive fees and a string of mis-selling scandals, Britain’s biggest mutual revealed yesterday."

But full marks for the Mail for being consistent at being inconsistent.0 -
I've been trying to log on all day but still out of action. First they said it would be ok after 12.00, then when I tried at 15.30 it said to wait till 17.00. I tried at 18.30 and still not working, so I've given up. I'll try tomorrow and hopefully it will work!!0
