Npower !

Today we received a letter from NPower informing us they had made a mistake and miscalculated our bill.Due to this mistake they hadn't taken any payment from us for some 4 months and they now want to debt the full amount from our account (£2440) in 10 days.
I contacted them and made them aware this would not happen. They offered £40 compensation for the problems.
On discussing this with my partner she was able to remind me that there were a succession of issues regarding taking payment last year and part of our outstanding debt was down to their inefficiencies.
I've been offered another £75 (maximum good will) and a new lower cost contract !!! but still remain skeptical of their abilities to manage their customer payment plan.
I'm holding out now for a cancellation of the debt as a minimum and am about to escalate to issue to the ombudsman and Ofgen as it's Npower whom have cased all the problems.
Has anyone else had these issues with them cannot imagine i'm on my own?

£2440 sounds like a lot of debt for 4 months.

In what way(s) have they miscalculated the bill, over what period & what efforts had you made to address this?

I wouldn't necessarily bank on getting £2440 written off if I were you but depending on circumstances, timescales & your own efforts perhaps the back billing guideline may help you?

If the debt is legitimate then unless you can get switched before you reach the point of a bill being unpaid for 28 days you will probably not be able to switch elsewhere until it's cleared but even so I certainly wouldn't be rushing to sign any new contracts with Npower though
  • As above, £2440 really is a lot of debt to accrue in 4 months, I wouldn't be confident that is accurate unless you have a large property.

I suppose if you don't even notice a DD not being collected in 4 months, you're unlikely to be the type of person that retains meter readings for us to look at, which would really help.

Npower are truly woeful at the moment, but suffice to say once they do accurately calculate your bill, you can't avoid the debt because they're woeful at invoicing. You have to pay for what you've used like the rest of us.
