O/S Daily Thread Friday 4th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work early, but not stupid early.
Now light, cloudy and overcast but still quite warm. Greenhouse/plants to be watered shortly. Have stripped our bed and the bedding is now in the WM, will hang it out later.
Dinner last night was ham, egg and chips with side salad for the menfolk, although DH didn’t have his until a bit later as he was late home from work. I had ham, egg, jacket potato and salad. Tonight our friends are coming over, and I’m doing salad, new pots, and an assortment of meats etc as we accompanying them to a caravan meeting, and DH felt it would be good for us to give them some support as there’s been some difficulties within the group (long story I won’t bore you all with).
I was reasonably productive yesterday, got going with the pile of ironing early in the day before it got too hot, then just pottered about steadily doing the housework and other jobs that needed doing. I got both boys beds stripped, bedding washed and sorted so they put it back on last night. Also spent some time writing a menu plan, have written the menu in line with what we have in the freezer/storecupboard and I’m hoping that I can use up some of the stock from the freezer.
I will be heading to town shortly to visit the bank, then food shopping, then home to continue with the jobs I want to get done. This weekend we have a few jobs on the list that we need to get done – taking some items back to the caravan etc.
Have a good Friday everyone x
Take it steady in the sunshine, remember the sunscreen x

Morning all,
awake bright and early this morning. All jobs completed except the vacuum cleaner but i'll do that a bit later when 'Youngest' is awake.
Hubby is having his knee surgery today. Nothing major just repairing a torn ligament. He's been told he wont be out of action for too long.... pity they cant fix his ankle too.Work wants him back asap (even if they have to send someone to fetch him and bring him back home). They have promised to plonk him in the middle of a load of distribution boards in a wheelchair if they have to.:rotfl:
Not much else happening, we will just see how the day progresses.
Onwards and forwards (I'm so not wearing a nurses outfit today),
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning everyone, we woke early today as it was so hot so I got up and made tea and got the washing on, sorted out the tidying up, fed He Who Knows his breakfast and when he took the Lurcha for his walk I made beds and went right through the house with the vacuum cleaner so all the housework done before 9 o clock!
I'm off to the GP surgery in a few minutes for my blood test and then a visit to the greengrocer for some fruit and veg for the weekend. I'll walk home it's only a couple of miles and vaguely downhill so will be nice in this weather. I'm making a Mediterranean Lentil Stew with feta cheese and olives for lunch with nice crusty bread, yummy!!!
Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Good morning everyone
Another "thought I had posted but I hadn't" day. I am sure all my missing posts are floating around in the MSE ether somewhere!
No old style today as it's a celebratory day as we paid off our mortgage yesterday, though if you count still having a bottle of sparkling wine left over from Christmas and using that the celebration, it could be seen as a bit of a money saving :rotfl:
Need to make a big list of weekend jobs to do quietly while DH is on the last leg of his exam marking. The first payment came through yesterday and he said it made the hard work all feel worthwhile. Needless to say, it's already disappeared out of the bank account and been paid off a debt.
Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

Morning all
Beautiful day here again, washing is on the line, the housework is done, DH has just finished preparing the wall ready for papering tomorrow
Off to DS's school at 1:30 for his sports day and the summer fair straight after so I expect we will have a lovely afternoon, and if last years is anything to go by an expensive one at that, £2 for a slice of cake!! Oh well its only once a year!
Hope you all have a lovely day xG.C July £21.09/£1000 -
Morning all
Beautiful day again.
Had a lovely evening yesterday. Dropped DS2 off at the Outlet centre, then me and DH went for a nice walk around the local area (St Mary's Island). We picked up fish and chips on the way back, ate them and then went back to the Outlet centre where they host a Custom car show once a month. Was nice to see the old Capris and Cortinas!
Had a bit of a panic this morning. My ongoing 'shall I, shan't I' insure DS2 on my car. Well decided to go for it. Quote was £662 and they charged me £847!!!! I always double check and knew it was an error. So I had to phone them and the guy was really apologetic and said the only way was to refund the difference, but it will take until next Friday before I get the £185 back. I wonder how many people don't check and get caught out?
Done the housework so alls good.
Judi - hope your DH is ok. I expect he'd quite like you in a nurses uniform
JackieO - Congrats to your DGD, bet you are all very proud.0 -
