Hi

I'm working on increasing my credit score, have been using Experian to monitor progress each month as and when..

About 4 months ago I noticed I wasn't registered on the electoral role.. council messed up and spelt my name wrong and I've finally been put on it.

I had a call from Experian today to tell me that they'd contacted my council and have updated my account to show me as being registered on the role.

I've just got home, logged into my account and noticed my credit score has gone down because of this?

As of June 30th my credit score was 598, it was updated today with the changes since last report just being registered on the electoral role, now it's dropped to 549.

Can anyone shed any light, is this an error?

EDIT: I appreciate that credit scores don't mean a lot, and different places have different rules for giving credit, but I'm using Experian as a rough guide so I know where I stand.

You don't have a credit score, hence why it randomly fluctuates. It is a made up number designed to make money out of people who are gullible enough to believe they do have a credit score.

Sure it's a number they produce based on the data they have and has absolutely no baring when I apply for credit with different companies - but one would of thought it'd still increase. I thought being registered on the electoral role was a good thing?

Exactly - hence the fact it is worthless. They fluctuate for no reason. Look at the guy below this thread with multiple defaults and a "fair" "score".

A friend of mine had absolutely 0 credit, not even a phone contract. I have a 2 year solid history with full payments every month on a phone contract, 2 credit cards and a loan. He had a higher 'score' than I did.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
