What is the difference apart from the price?

The type of tomato used.
The quality of the tomato used.
Was it vine ripened or ripened artificially?
Taste wise when used in cooking....my opinion...not much.
I'd buy the better tomatoes if I were using them in a home made tomato soup.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I think the cheaper ones can be a bit sharper so occasionally add a (small) pinch of sugar/sweetener.
I really dislike eating tinned tomatoes on their own (such as with a cooked breakfast) so I only use them in recipes. IMO once they have a few herbs/spices added you'd never know the difference.0 -
I've never noticed any difference in taste.0

I am weird- I like to eat tinned tomatoms (warmed up with a little pepper) by themselves. (I really like tomatos!) I do find that I notice the difference in branded compared to value tomato. The main difference is that the value types seem a bit watery and the taste is less intense. If your cooking you could easily remedy this with tomato puree paste or even just ignore it, but when eaten alone after not very long at all I noticed a difference.
The supermarkets own brand don't have that much difference to the value lines- they are a little thicker/less watery but overall don't taste that different, it is just the branded types which I notice have more taste and a better texture.
I'd suggest doing your own taste test though as different people like different things- I even notice the difference in taste from un-tinned types, and from certain countries (there are some countries I just wont buy from as a result) but again; different people look for different things in their food, test things out in the ways you cook to see what works for you. Not many people eat tomato without any other food type added.0 -
Lidl and Aldi's own brand tinned toms cost the same as the value ones, but are much better quality, with a thick juice, not watery like the value ones are.0

My favorite breakfast is crispy bacon with a whole tin of Napolina toms on top and white bread and butter. It always had to be Napolina. Last week I tried Sainsbos. They were fine.
Cooking wise any cheap chopped ones that dont sound like they are sloshing in loads of juice.0 -
Tried the KTC brand recently as it was on offer. It's odd. I can imagine using it in curries and pastas provided I didn't blend it down any further. There's a lot of juice which tastes nice as a drink but not many chunks.
I like the Cook Italian range, but generally just go for something like Tesco value with herbs (a bit more expensive than their normal value range 45p to 31p iirc).

I much prefer the Lidl ones too (not tried the Aldi ones). Same price as supermarket lowest prices but they're nice and red and the sauce is thicker ... and you seem to get more tomatoes in there.... some cheapo tins I've opened in the past have just had one big tomato and two tiny ones in!0
