All,
Your help will be appreciated in understanding if this quote for remodelling of the garden is fair or not. Overall quote for the job below is £5600. The person providing the quote has shown a portfolio of good quality work with clean finishing.
Any guidance on whether this is in the right ballpark will help.
Background
Dimension of the garden: 80 ft (25 mts) long x 35 ft (11 mts) wide; garden has two parts, each about 40ft long. Top half of the garden has a good slope. There is a very old retaining wall between top half and bottom (1.5 feet tall), with a few steps. Garden has not been looked after for many years, so usual grass / weed etc)
Work order
1. Demolish old retaining wall and build a new retaining wall
(see attached link for image:
s11.postimg.org /bmtl7xpwz /garden.jpg) -
> 11mt (35 ft) long, 30 cms (12 inches) wide, 1mt (3.5ft) high.
> Made of two layers of concrete blocks (4 inches wide), with concrete infilling of 4 inches in between
> Concrete footing 4 inches deep, 18 inches wide
> The visible parts of the wall rendered (but not painted)
> Coping Stone on top (14 inches wide), along the wall
> Wall has concave steps in the middle, 1.5mts wide, three steps deep (each 14 inches wide)
> Wall turns top half of the garden (i.e. forms an "L" shape on both sides of the steps, see image)
> Total length of the wall, accounting for the L shape - 13 mts
2. Rotavate, fill top half of the garden (20 tonnes soil), turf using Rolawn Medallion, 10cm of topgrade soil at the top
3. Line the garden with paving stones along the perimeter (10 cms wide, total length of 80mts).
4. Rotavate, till and turf the bottom half of the garden.
5. Draw power cables from the house to put in landscaping lights (6 of them) in the walls.
7. Build a paving stone quadrant (3mts radius) using sandstone in the top half of the garden
Some details on materials required:
1. Concrete Blocks for the wall: 300 (440mm x 215mm x 100mm)
2. Cement / Concrete - as required
3. Soil required to flatten top half of garden - 20 tonnes (including topgrade soil - 2 tonnes)
4. Paving Stones - 7.5msq
5. Coping Stone - 14mts long x 30cms wide, bull
6. Sandstone Quadrant: 8 msq
The approximate split of the total quote of 5600 is (all include labour and material):
1. £2500 for the wall
2. £1500 for using a digger to rotavate, fill, level and turf the top half of the garden
3. £800 for levelling and turfing the bottom half of the garden
4. £500 for others - paving stones, sandstone quadrant
5. £300 for electrical work
Thanks a lot for your help. Let me know if you need any more details.
Regards,
Sunil

Thanks
