Charged for phone insurance TWICE!

I checked my direct debits the other day and I've been paying for my old 3GS contract phone insurance via Geek Sqaud.
When I upgraded to my iphone 5 my insurance went up to £14.99 but the old policy for my old iPhone 3GS was still in place. I have called Geek Squad and they will not refund me!
Geek Squad owe me £285.00 which I've been paying since 2012 - I need this money back!
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you
Amy

Why do they owe you anything? Do you have copies of a request to them to cancel your insurance in 2012?
If you didn't ask them to cancel the policy, i'm not sure why you think they owe you anything - They've still been insuring your old 3GS, its not their fault if you stopped using it/sold it/whatever and didn't tell them.
Leaving this aside, you're unlikely to get anywhere with trying to pursue a refund other than as a goodwill gesture because of the length of time involved. Waiting 2 years to decide you don't want something you've been paying for every month looks more like buyer's remorse ("oh I didn't need to use the insurance so i'll try to claim the premiums back") rather than a genuine error forgetting to cancel the insurance.0 -
Hi Amy
I think nidO is right however, you may have a chance (albeit a small one) if you can prove/demonstrate that your old 3GS phone was sold and no longer in your possession and therefore no need to have the insurance. If you still have the phone then I think you'll be unable to get any refund.
All the best0 -

Your Geek Squad cover had nothing to do with your phone contract. It was a policy that covered the handset against various perils that would affect it during its life.
If you sold the handset on, then it remained your responsibility to remember to cancel cover you do not require. However, regardless, the phone would still be covered so the charges rarely are recoverable. If you never made a claim, then as a goodwill gesture some companies will agree to a rebate of some sort, but certainly not the premiums in their entirety back to some arbitrary date you forgot to tell them!
Clearly, you've asked, and they've refused. Effectively that's an end to the matter - always assuming you've now remembered to cancel the DD. I agree the £285 would have been better in your pocket than theirs, but on the basis you were paying (say £6pm) you will have had FOUR YEARS of bank statements showing the debit, and the penny hadn't dropped?
You asked them to provide the service, and it is up to the customer to tell them to stop - blame cannot be attributed to any other party, because if you don't tell them you've sold on the phone, who would?0
