Plumbing in a new washing machine

We have just had a replacement washing machine delivered and the installer could not finish the job - the waste pipe would not reach the drain
He told us that we needed to get an extension pipe and "T" connector to join up with the existing pipe and this will then push on to the drain...(under the sink)
I have found a suitable pipe (http://www.screwfix.com/p/washing-machine-drain-hose-1-5m/78930) - but the T piece confuses me
Did he mean an "in-line" outlet hose connector (http://www.screwfix.com/p/plastic-outlet-hose-connector-17-x-17mm/37103)
I assume that these just push together ?
Our previous machine used to have a long enough pipe to reach but water failed to drain properly - the machine outlet was below the level of the point that the pipe connected to - meaning that water stayed in the pipe - is this acceptible ?
If not - what is the solution ?

You are correct, you need the inline connector and I would get 2 x jubilee clips also to secure the pipes onto the connector and one to secure the end of the pipe onto the plumbing under the sink0
-
Thanks - the pipes are semi rigid - should I compress them with jubilee clips ?0

Something incompatible in that, tee would only be needed if you couldn't get into the "top" of the pipe.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
OK Got an extension pipe / new hose - and an in-line connector
one end of the pipe fits the connector (with jubilee clips - should hold) - the other end is like a funnel - won't go on to the drain connector spiggot...
Don't know what to do next ?0 -
We paid £35 for installation to Currys on top of £20 delivery (so much for free delivery) So we are REQUESTING a refund of £35 + £20 delivery
We still cannot plumb in the drain pipe
The installers left the spigot on the drain open when they removed the old machine - which means that the sink cannot be used. .. No blank was fitted. ..This is a pain in the neck !!!0 -
Update.
Currys tell us to buy a Y connector and an extension hose.
Why a Y connector ?
not a straight through connector..
Is the extension hose any different to a "normal" hose
ie) http://www.wickes.co.uk/Washing-Machine-Waste-Hose-Outlet/p/420181
Plus the height concerns me - the spigot is about 18 inches higher than the outlet on the machine ... will water drain properly and not pool ?
They will come out (90 miles round trip) to fit it in a few days !!0 -

Thank you - so useful !0 -
worked for me until I got a blankDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

Sorry - I thought that PN was taking the pi$$
We have a proper plumber coming tomorrow to sort it out
In the meantime I have requested a reimbursement of the £35 paid to currys for installation - which clearly was not completed
This is on top of the £20 delivery which "should" have been free !!
The Y connector is NOT needed - it is a fill item - and the device is cold fill only - so the Y connector has no place in the system..........0
