£2400 dual fuel bill from NPOWER - can this be right??
Hi, I'm hoping somebody can tell me if this sounds right.
After not having received a bill for 16 months, I looked online at my NPOWER account this morning to see a duel bill debit for £2397.00.
I rang them and asked for what period this bill was for and was told February 2013 - June 2014. I explained that they couldn't bill me for the February 2013 - June 2014 due to their policy on writing off debts over 12 months old etc etc. I was then told i'd already had £677 written off for that period. So, the £2397 is my actual bill for the last 12 months.
I've not had a break-down of this bill yet as I haven't received a paper copy but I was told that £1400 was for electric and £900 for gas.
I continued to pay my monthly direct debit of £165.00 per month so had a credit of £2700 before they took the bill, leaving me just over £300 in credit.
I live in a 3 bed semi with double glazing and loft insulation. Yes I have two teenage children who use all the usual gadgets but this still seems a lot.
Does this seem right or have they just plucked these figures out of thin air?
Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

Are the energy consumption figures on your bill estimates or actual readings by you or an authorised meter reader ?0

If the meter readings that the bill is based on are from actual readings, then its obviously right, but also probably about right if you are a high energy user. I live in a 3 bed mid terrace, and there's just the two of us, we're out most of the day, and we use about £1,000 per annum on EDF Blue dual fuel, having just reduced from around about £1200 per annum cost. With a couple of teenagers and potentially heating on more, I can see £200 per month as a reasonable figure if it includes some backpayment. My two were terrible for leaving lights on, TV's being watched by nobody etc. etc. when they were teenagers, so your bill doesn't surprise me .
As said on numerous posts, check your meter readings regularly, tell them what you are using. At that rate you should build up a credit over the summer, then gradually lose that credit in the winter. If they aren't sending you a bill, you should work your own out based on your meter readings so your armed and ready when the bill arrives. I'm quite happy with my supply/cost but I read the meter every month anyway.0
