Does anyone know a way of recording a channel other than the one you are watching on basic package Virgin NTL cable? Thoroughly fed up of only being able to record only what I'm actually watching.
Stuck with this as cannot receive either analogue or Freeview. Grrr.

If it's a standard box with a single tuner all you will be able to do is record what channel you are on. If you have no analogue feed from an aerial you only have one source of signal and that is in use by the box.

if you have no analogue or freeview it sounds like the only other option would be to upgrade to a V+ box. That has three tuners so you can record two while watching a third, but it does cost extra. We pay £10 a month for ours so it's not very money saving but is very good.

Echo the above. With the V+ box you can watch one channel while recording any other two, pause and rewind live broadcasting (useful when the phone goes in the middle of your favourite programme) and the quality of recordings is as good as the original.

Sounds like an advert, but I have no connections with Virgin other than as a customer.

Not well up with all the latest things:confused: with the v+box can you also record to a dvd writer. How many more wires are we going to have behind the tv mine looks like a sub staion now.

THanks for the replies. ANswers as I expected. It infuriates me - I just feel as though I am being scr*wd. I can't get analogue, yet I still have to pay my licence fee, and to get any telly at all I have to pay out for a really cr*p service. I thought NTL were bad - Virgin is even worse.

Yes you can connect a DVD writer (or VCR) to a port on the back of the V+ box and copy things to DVD. The V+ box replaces the standard Virgin Set top box so it doesn't increase the number of cables.

Well the license fee pays for he BBC however you receive it, not the Analogue service.

How come you can't get Analogue or Freeview? If you can get cable it can't be in a very remote area so I'm surprised you can't get them.

Another thing about the V+ box is that you never have to watch another commercial. If you want to see a programme that runs from, say, 9.00 pm to 10.00 pm you just start recording at 9.00 pm. Then you start watching the recording at around 9.15 and fast forward through the commercial breaks. The machine goes on recording the end while you're watching the beginning. If you time it right you catch up with the recording just as the programme ends.
