But the Financial Conduct Authority is already committed to considering whether it could introduce similar measures for those calling banks, insurance companies and investment brokers .

and have you checked any banks contact numbers lately ?
HSBC, and M&S Bank have announced they are making the move to 03 numbers.
Barclays, First Direct, RBS, NatWest, TSB, and others are already offering 03 contact numbers
Lloyds give an alternative 01/02 number.
Nationwide have gone with 0800 numbers.0 -
Put your money where you mouth is and change your bank to one that does not use premium rate numbers?
But in the era of online banking I can't really see the relevance of telephone bankng any more for most people. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I don't think government legislation is needed here (we all go on about hating a nanny state, and then want these things!). If those who were unhappy with 0845 numbers shifted suppliers to companies who offer local/ geographic numbers I am sure the rest of the industry would change their position quickly.0

Pretty soon 084 and 087 numbers will be as common as telephones that actually have a dial."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
