Green deals - just how do they work

I've read the info on the new Green Deals and have to admit I am confused.

I would like to replace my very old boiler and very old double glazing. Obviously these both have energy saving implications too.

Now if I can get some sort of contribution from the govt at the same time then I would be delighted as I was going to have to spend the money anyway.

I would anticipate spending over £3000-£4000 to get this work done. What I dont grasp is how or if I can apply for some financial assistance doing it. I can pay for the work without a loan.

If I am not loaning the cash how do I receive the assistance ?

Thanks - I ended up called the advice line on the Gov.UK site linked above 0300 123 1234 for the correct advice over this.
  • There is no new green deal there is just a new incentive under the Green Deal called the home improvement fund.

This will give you £1000 for installing two of 12 eligible measures.

£500 if you bought your home within the last 12 months

75% upto £6000 for solid wall insulation

    £100 refund for a GDAR

Anything you install must be recommended on an epc or a Green Deal advice report (gdar) and be installed by a green deal installer.

And this does not require a Green Deal loan.

The green deal is much more than a finance option for paying for home improvements there are 1000 of pounds worth of grants and cashback and it is not means tested
