Bag for pre-teen girl

Hi- I'm looking for some tips on what to get an 11 year old girl for her birthday. I thought I'd go for a bag of some kind, either a small purse bag or a bigger one for when she goes to senior school in a few months.

Can anyone give me an idea of what brand/style to go for? I thought of Gorjuss, but they're quite pricy. Any other thoughts that might be suitable?

TIA

I bought my nieces (9+11) polka dot oil cloth satchels for Christmas, which were between £8 and 13 each. They were thrilled, and the bags are big enough to take an A4 pad sideways on, so OK for school work/books or a tablet / iPad.

They come in loads of colours and patterns, so if you don't like polka dot, try searching just for oil cloth satchel. You can get matching coin purses (useful if they have to pay for the bus to school using cash).

My daughter is 11 and is in love with the Paul Frank bags and the David and Goliath ones! They are messenger bags so ideal for secondary school, and are very popular with the pre teens.

just be careful with the idea of a bag for school - as it can be a very localised trend, school to school and even year to year, in secondary school.

The oiled satchels are very popular, my niece and my DD both got one at around age 11 - neither use them for school though.

Mi Pac are the bags of choice at my daughters secondary school but as a previous poster says this can be localised.
    Kate short for Bob.

Maybe a kipling bag? My 12 year old cousin loves hers :) otherwise, if she wants a more 'grown up' bag, the cambridge satchels are excellent quality and come in lots of fun colours :)

Oilcloth satchels are pretty popular with my cheer squad.

I wouldn't buy a bag for an 11 year old girl unless she was with me at the time. Girls in the main like to have the current style, last year it was backpacks from Primark, however this will be out of date for this September for my daughter when she goes into year 10. It's all about big handbags this year. I wouldn't dare buy one without her looking at it first.

I'd suggest a gift voucher. Or cash.

I wouldn't buy a bag as a present either - too personal, i've got two daughters, and if i pick up something that i like, i get 'the look'....
