My home and contents insurance will be due whilst waiting to exchange contracts on my house sale and purchase. What are my best options for dealing with the renewal? It could only be a few weeks worth of cover!

I dont see you have much choice, after all, why would you take a huge risk on losing your house if something happened for the sake of a couple of hundred quid - what if a fire occurred ? - buy a policy and protect yourself!

You need to speak to your insurer.

Have you had a quote from your current insurer for change of address to the new property?

If you change the address to the new property insurers can offer cover for the buildings element for both properties (poss up to 90 days for the old one but for contents it could be as little as 7 days)

This is of course providing that you renew with them.

If you let the current policy run you may have a cooling off period within 14 days but you would normally have to pay for the time insured and there may be an admin fee if you want to cancel so you might not get much back depending on how much you are paying.
