barclays cant fund hunny's account

we went into barclays this avo to get the account details for my husbands old barclays account to claim back the bank charges. only when it came to looking them up on the computer they could only find record of him having a visa credit card, which he did, and we took the details for to claim on that, but they have no record whatsoever of hubby having any kind of account with them other than that! which is strange considering he opened a young savers account at 14 and it changed when he turned 16 or 17 to a proper adults account. we closed the account 2 years ago when we consolidated our debts, as we did with hsbc, who were able to give us all of our old account details this avo. My hubby used to work for a bank and apparently they started to panic when he said that FSA regulations state that they should keep all account details on record until the account has been closed for 5 years. They want us to send them a letter with all the details we gave them this avo so that they can get a manager to investigate the situation. does anyone have any experience of this? where do we stand with regards to claiming back our bank charges now??? please help!! emma x

    Get a credit report - it will show who and when you've had accounts with in the past 6 years - if they noted it :o err eek just realised not all banks note your account on your file but its still worth a look. You can get them on-line for free :)

    I did have a similar to do with Abbey but did finally manage to get them to search on their old system as they had changed counter systems since I had closed my account 4 years ago. Then I had to prove I was me and ask for a change of address on the account just so I could start the claim (don't tell my ex).
    Got It & Spent It :dance:
    IKEA CARD = £120 charges = £175 received (146%)
    MARBLES = £450 charges = £370 received (82%)
    I.F. = £494 charges = £494 received (100%)
    CAPITAL ONE = £981 charges = £1,489.03 (152%)
    BARCLAYCARD = £580 charges = £786.12 (136%)
    On Hold :mad:
    A+L = £722 charges (target = 147%)
    BARCLAYS = £1,405 charges (target = 128%)
    BARCLAYS = £175 charges (target = 140%)
    ABBEY = £3,220 charges (target = 148%)
