Does electoral role voting info stop you from making transfers??

I've been refused a balance transfer from my bank AFTER they sold me a credit card with 29month low rate. Now they say I can't use it because of the electro role movement. Is this for all banks or is my bank being silly??

    It's Electoral Roll.

I assume when you say movement that you have moved house and you are not yet on the electoral roll at your new address. What is it that you are being stopped from doing because of it?

Is this Barclaycard by any chance? If so, they are known for doing this e.g. issuing a card, allowing some transactions then closing the account.

Other banks are less prone to do this - most usually give you a straight decline at the time of applying otherwise if it's a 'yes' to your application it'll stay a yes.

Most banks will want you on the electoral roll though.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

Thanks for the English lesson. Yes I am on the Electoral Roll where I live. they said that as I have been living at my current address as a registered voter for 9 months that I could not make any transfers for 12 months of making a vote(May elections). I took this card out and told the bank I would make a transfer and the only reason I was taking the card out was to transfer a balance. I did this in branch and they accepted me knowing full well my circumstances living, occupation etc. so you can understand that I would be a bit annoyed when I'm told that the very card I took out to make the transfer was not able to!! nozsa79

Was the card actually advertised as a card which offers balance transfers?

I don't know of any bank that would say this. Are you sure this is what they said ?

How would they know you voted ? I've been registered to vote at my address for 27 years, sometimes i vote, sometimes i don't.

I think you might have misunderstood what was said.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. What on earth can voting have to do with a BT?!

That said, in their BT T&C they normally "reserve the right to refuse a credit card balance transfer or to limit the amount that you can transfer" without any reasons.

    Hiya.

Just to clarify the words I used in my last message was exactly what the telesales person said to me regarding my right to vote. I haven't said anything I haven't been told. That would be silly. However I have come on here to ask about this as I'm sure they are talking BS. But if someone knows that they have a point about making balance transfers that are affected by your right to vote or voting then I will be more wiser. Thanks :)

My best guess is the bank has a policy of not allowing BTs if their search shows you've been on the ER for less than 12 months.

The nonsense about voting is probably the dipstick who you spoke to at the call centre thinking that you get onto the ER by voting.
