Feline trash talking outside my house!

I moved into my house around 5 years ago. There are a lot of cats on my street and at night there seems to be an unwritten rule amongst them that they meet on the pavement outside my house to see who can screech loudest. This happens 3-4 times a week every summer, resulting in lost sleep for me and DH, and also winding up our own two cats.
Last night our maine coon was jumping from the back window to the front trying to find the fighting cats, long after the fight was over. Our younger moggie also gets agitated because one of the cats on the street attacked her twice when she was about 6 months old.
Short of running outside in my pjs every time to throw water near them, is there anything I can do to stop the cats fighting outside my house?

Thanks, I'm not sure if it'll work since I have a hedge at the front of the house that they seem to sit up against. Naturally, since I posted they've not been back!0

I have not tried this but I read in a magazine recently that a lady scattered chilli powder on her garden where a neighbour's cat keep using for it's toilet. It worked for her. I have heard of using pepper before too.0

I throw a glass of water out of the window when they do that, it makes more sound and more of a splash when it hits the floor than a water pistol, seems to work here.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Set up a baby monitor/alarm under the bush, then bark into your end of it when they start.0

Brilliant! ... love it!0 -
Thanks for the advice - I'm not really willing to try the chilli powder or pepper, as my own cats do hang around just outside the garden through the day when I'm home. I've tried throwing water out of the window, which helped until the cats realised that there was no way in hell that I could throw it far enough :rotfl:
The baby monitor idea sounds interesting though

You can borrow Raffles, or it's the water pistol. Better still, old, rinsed out, wul bottle, with gorged cap. More powerful.0

Is your maine coon neutered? Are they fighting for her? Tom cats will smell her from miles away.

The maine coon is an ex stud, when we got him two years ago it was on the condition that he was neutered by the last owner. He is however, still territorial, hence the jumping about from window to window. Our moggie is a girl, she was neutered at 5 and a half months old.
Thankfully we've only had fighting once since I posted, and I hadnt had time to get a water pistol. I'm now fuly armed in case it happens again
