Removing money/balance form a prepaid travel card?

Hello All

I'm off to new York in just over a month, I'm thinking about getting a prepaid card to avoid transaction fees and caring loads of cash.

My question is when i get back form the holiday can i transfer the remaining balance back into my bank account, or is it stuck in the card?

I see a lot of talk about easily transferring to the card but what about away from it, back to my bank?

Cheers

If you lose the card, you get the money back

Because you have an account with the card provider, your money's safe. But you may have to buy a new card - this can often cost up to £10.
This seems to imply that at least for some cards transfers back to a current account are impossible.

A proper debit or credit card is a better option if you can get one.
