    Monkeyballs,

a difference of views is most definitely welcome.

    You see two problems

    1) Gambling Husband

    2) Big debts

We agree on 1) (I think).

    On 2), we differ.

I dont think that the debts are that big in relation to the income. Maybe a SOA will prove me wrong, but that is a large income and unless the SOA is very unusual, the income should cover all outgoing, and pay back some of the gambling debt. The original poster may not need to cut back unduly, if at all, to see a surplus after all normal monthly expenses have been paid.

I also think that it doesnt matter what the poster does with respect to costs cutting. If her husband starts gambling again, then no action she takes with the rest of the family spend will make any difference at all.

    Hi,

No I appreciate what you're saying about them not being excessive in relation to income what I mean is that it's a big debt when you consider the Op didn't think there was one... Need to see an SOA first.

A couple of other things mentioned make me think that it could be a struggle, such as the comment about lease hire and no mention of a second income while being a full time carer for her sons... Plus she has asked for help on MSE's debt free wannabe forum :)

You're spot on about hubby tho.

She's lucky she has folk with opposing views like us looking out for her I guess eh? LOL

Yep I'm with MB on this one as well, it might not be top priority but once he stops the gambling every little bit that can help reduce the debt is worth looking at.

Despite the income, 55k of debt with interest being paid is not insignificant.
