Time limits on PPI claims

Can anyone advise me if there are time limits on making PPI claims? My partner had a smallish loan with HSBC in 1999. He didn't want PPI but he was told (at a face to face meeting with a HSBC employee) that he couldn't have the loan without the PPI. HSBC have provided some details of the loan and details of a claim questionnaire on the Ombudsman website so I assume they would look at a claim. Just wondered if anyone had similar experience. Thank you :) X

    Sort of.

You have three years from being reasonably aware of an issue or 6 years from the start (whichever is longer) to make your complaint. However, the onus is really on the firm to prove it. CCLs that allows the timebar clock to start ticking started going out last year in phases. Some are going now and some still to come. Santander started theirs over three years ago and its not uncommon to see them use the time bar.

You should be fine though as your first response would say you are timebarred. it didnt.

  • I'm new to the concept of claiming back PPI. A claims company alerted me to the possibilities of payouts and I intend to do it myself. Their questions revealed that I paid PPI to Capital One between 2002 and 2008. The claims company claim to trace loans right back to when I was 18.

Questions on time limits: Am I too late to persue Capital One? Can claims really be made on accounts stretching as far back as the 1970's?

Who is "their". Only you or Cap One know if you paid PPI or not.

    No

PPI is a mid early to mid 80s product. So, no, you cant go back that far.
