icon1.gifHire Car - bumper scraped, will it affect my insurance
    Hello there,

I sold my car and have been hiring for a while, on an as and when needed basis - renting car upto 20 days at a time. I sold mine and the plan was to get one when I am financially more stable, but the renting option looked better as I only needed the car once in a while. I have got the annual hire insurance excess cover, so never took the daily excess waiver insurance from the hire company

Unfortunately on my recent rental, got a bad scrape on the bumpers, and was wondering whether to put it through the annual excess cover insurance or try to get it repaired locally?

If i tell the hire car company, they will def charge the maximum from me ( 500 was the excess) which most likely I will be able to get it back from my annual excess insurance cover. But when I a buy a car this Summer, and apply for my own insurance, will I then need to reveal that I had made a claim in the past, thus affecting my insurance? I have got 9 years NCB with my previous insurance company and don't want to lose it - don't mind may be spending 100 to get the bumpers repaired - haven't got a estimate yet, but thought I will look for some advise here before I do.

    thanks in advance
What answer did you get ?

that its best to let the hire pple know of this, but it will affect my insurance in the future.
Do it at a local garage, a bit of d re-paint, as long as there r no other issues, shd b fine, hopefully

they are not supposed to charge the full excess, it's supposed to charge whateevr needs to cover the cost of the repair up the the amount of excess.

But since they control the costs and everything you can bet they'll take every penny.
