No retention on the mortgage.
You sound brave. Although I love cottagey type old houses, the work scares me - it concerns me that little problems can become big problems.0 -

We don't think it is worth that plus thousands of pounds of extra work on top. As simple as that really. I really don't want it to cost that much and that is why I am getting more than one estimate as I am hoping, and praying, that it isn't serious.
And this is fair enough. The value to you was based on the property being in a certain condition. The survey has suggested that it isn't in that condition, and the property is not worth the purchase price for you. Nobody has the right to judge you on that one. That said, it sounds as though your valuation may not be realistic in the current market place, as the surveyor considers it worth the asking price in it's current state. This could in turn impact on your ability to bid competitively on other properties. I don't mean that to be critical, just stating the realities of the situation.0 -
I do know what you mean Jason but here in the North East property isn't selling as well as it is down South - this particular house been on the market since Dec/Jan and there hadn't been very many viewings - I got the impression from the vendor that only a handful of people had been to see it, none expressing interest of a second viewing.0

When we bought our house last year said would only offer what it said in the survey so knocked 10k off it.
Have since spent 15k on it and still needs new bathroom, downstairs loo and redecorating.0 -

I am not sure most residents of Yarm would describe themselves as North East. Isn't there a campaign to try and get Yarm put back into Yorkshire?June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
