This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning :hello:

donny-gal Thanks for the update about Molly. Not sure whether to be happy or angry, to be honest. I'm pleased SS things are finally working things out but mad that they all had to go through the mill before they got what they needed.
Hilstep You reminded me of my MIL, when her chemo finished she kept saying “oh I love it when I pee, that's more of the nasties gone”
Jackie How did you get on? xx
Jo Chick was at the vets last night, her comb and top of her head suddenly swelled up and affected her eyesight. She has a lump on her tummy too. The vet was stumped, she can't find a cause and Jo is showing no signs of illness either. She's had a strong antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory, we're seeing the chicken specialist on friday morning.
I've been reading up on how to care for strawberry plants in the winter. We've always had them in the ground before, we leave leaves in the borders over winter for a bit of protection and they've aways been fine. This year they're on a table in pots – because of previous chicken thievery! - and I think they'll be a bit exposed if we have a really cold winter.
I wasn't really hungry last night so tea was a big bowl of berries with a bit of ice cream. I didn't use much, I let it melt then poured it over the top of the berries, like a sauce

Some of today's jobs will have to wait - I'm going to visit little nephew this afternoon, can't wait to see him.

Good morning everyone :hello:
I woke up very early after a weird dream but I've had a cuppa so feel back to 'normal'! My mind is buzzing with ideas for the dining room after yesterdays little shopping expedition. I am sure of what colour scheme I want but it's all the little bits and pieces to make it more homely without it being too cluttered I'm thinking about.
I'm going to chuck a chilli in the slow cooker once the girls have stopped faffing around making their lunches and that will be my lunches for a couple of days and tonight I'm cooking thai green chicken curry and rice. It's a new one on me but I'll give it a whirl.
Our poor dog had an accident in the living room, very out of character for him. He has been off his food for a few days too so I will keep an eye on him and if he doesn't perk up soon it's off to the vets. I'm hoping it's just the warm weather that's making him uncomfortable as he has a thick coat.
I have to psych myself to go to town later on my own. I'll try to get in as early as I can and then it's done and dusted. Unfortunately I have to go as I need to pick up a prescription and drop some paperwork into the council office. I'm going to try not to overthink it and just pull up my big girl pants and get on with it.
Well, that's all my waffle for now, hope you all have a great day. Take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Really hot here already yesterday was melting in the kitchen at work and I think today might be the same.
I made a really nice 'coleslaw' for dinner yesterday, grated some carrot + cucumber shredded some lettuce and a red onion and covered in a sweet chilli mayo it was really nice for a change, we had it with cold chicken and new spuds.
Going to have pizza for dinner tonight, possibly with garlic bread and maybe a bit of salad. Bins and recycling out this morning.
Have good days all xx
Dazi nice to 'see' you here xx0 -
TTFTM and All Who Think of Me - thank you - hopefully back up to posting soon x
Donny - thanks for updating for me xxxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and chilling with a cuppa – later start today but very late finish tonight.
Now light, blue sky and bright sunshine, Its quite warm already too.
Washing on the line. Greenhouse/plants watered.
Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, carrots, broccolli, green beans and gravy. Tonight I’m not sure about as they’ll only be me and the boys – so will do something reasonably quick and easy. DH really p****d me off last night – he moans if I don’t give him a “proper” dinner and last night he moaned that he had the same veg again, he won’t eat all veg so there’s quite a lot that I don’t buy/cook. I’m sure I’ve said on here before he doesn’t do anything at home, he comes in from work and sits watching tv, eats dinner, and then goes to bed. He does work long hours and I know it’s tiring but he doesn’t lift a finger to help, so it just makes me cross. If I sat on my backside all the time he’s got every right to moan but I work and do everything at home. It would help if he could cook a meal once in a while but he doesn’t do that, and when I’ve suggested that, he looks at me like I’ve got 2 heads – and the response is “I’ll give up work then!”. He just can’t see I can’t keep doing it all especially as he keeps taking on jobs/things to do with the caravan that we’re involved in, and I finish up doing all the work behind the scenes/admin work to make those things happen. And breathe ………………… Rant over ……………………….. Starting to think I may well start doing the shopping with a thought of each week doing 1 x pasta meal, 1 x rice meal, 1 x roast in the week, etc and seeing if that gives us some variations. I have been cooking bigger portions and then saving some that then goes in the freezer to make a meal for another day.
Today I’m only working until lunchtime, then home to do the normal jobs I do when I’m on days’ off. Yesterday we were quite steadily busy, and I’m expecting more of the same today as it’s the start of the month but at least the time will pass quite quickly.
Take it steady in the sunshine, remember the sunscreen x
Keep safe and well x
nmlc xWEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB0 -
Good Morning everyone and thank you all for the good wishes yesterday .Well I went to my pre-op medical and passed with flying colours my weight was downa bit more
:) and blood pressure is fine and the nusre has said I am fit for the op. so the next thing is to see my consultant on the 23rd of this month then full steam ahead.I will have to decide wether to have it before or after my holiday in august.I'm in two minds as I want it doen asap hbut will have to discuss the after care and effects as I don't want to muck up the families holiday.really depends on how long the wait is.
But its nice to know I am fighting fit at least and have passed my 'body MOT ':):)
busiscoming 2 Did you go to the Dobbies by the big Tescos at Gillingham yesterday ? I would normally have been there for the U3A coffee morning but owing to the hospital appointment I couldn't go.
We usually hold an informal one every Tuesday morning. Can't miss us as we are the ones gathered together laughing like loons:):)with the U3A sign on the table
:):) Dobbies do a great deal with a £10.00 joing fee for a year you get 10% off everything plus two free teas or coffees per month(worth about £50+ over the year.) they have a great deli as well
Well although today will be a NSD for me I have promised to take my DD to Maidstone as she has the day off and wants to get some new tops for work.
I don't want to be too long there as Andy Murray is playing today and I like to try and watch that if I can.supposed to be a real scorcher today so sun cream is going on after my shower as I do burn very easily I have some Uvistat 50 SPF which stops be from being fried.
Hope you all have a great day and the sun shines down on you all.
nmlc sometimes its good to have a rant and just get it off your chest ,better than yelling at nearest and dearest:):) just yell on here we don't mind
:):)
Cheers chums

Hi everyone,
Molly, good to see you, I hope your op happens soon.
JO, well done on the weight loss again - you sound like a kid at Christmas and I don't blame you.
I've a busy day in prospect because I've a list as long as my arm to finish before we go away. I also want to see DS and watch Andy Murray -mmm, we'll see.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning everyone another hot day in the making here again. We're going to have to start watering the fruit bushes as the leaves are beginning to brown and crisp and the raspberries haven't even flowered yet. The paper yesterday said there were signs of an early autumn this year but I'd quite like a bit more summer first, it's only just July!
Had a scare yesterday He Who Knows had a faitness fit in the porch when he was answering the door to a neighbour, they rang me in town just as I got to the checkout and I got home as soon as I could. He's a bit shaken and felt flat yesterday and also has some spectacular bruises where he plomped down suddenly on the front doorstep. He seems OK tody and has taken the Lurcha out for his morning walk, so hopefully he's OK.
MOLLY lovely to see you post again petal, hope so very much that things improve for you very quickly in all areas of life. Just remember that even in the darkest times there are many of us here wishing you well and sending you hugs.
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx0 -
Morning all,
I'm turning into a senile old bat. You remember the palava I had not taking my correct medication a few weeks back? Well I went out and bought two weekly pill boxes. Every segment being named by the day of the week. All this was done so that I know if I've missed a day. Well it seems even this isn't good enough as ive just taken my tablets for today and it seems I didn't take two out of yesterdays section. I tip them into my hand before taking them but two stuck to the bottom and didn't come out. I hadn't noticed either. I must take more care with my medication. I recon by tomorrow the lack of thyroxine will kick in and I wont be able to get out of bed (well that will be my excuse and I'll be sticking to it).
Sitting here with a bag on my head. I am trying to get the remnants of the semi permanent hair colour out of my hair that I put in last November. Semi permanent my @rse, its stuck like glue! I think I must be on my 8th box since February. The colour is coming out but very gradually. Ive cut as much out as I can but I'm still not happy. Another half an hour to go before I laboriously go through the rinsing and buffering stage. Good job we aren't on a water meter. I cant go too drastic cause its my daughters wedding in May. Talking about my daughter... she's annoyed me.... but that's another story. No doubt i'll be annoying everyone in the house with the smell from my hair for the next week or two... talk about the smell of rotten eggs... well that's nothing to the lingering stink of this stuff that ive put on my hair.
Housework for today well I haven't started yet. My bedding is being laundered as I type but I need to tip 'Youngest' out of his pit before I can start on his. I'm not going to rush him though as he was out most of yesterday and he is suffering with his hay fever this morning.
Tea tonight? Nope don't have a clue. I'll get there eventually.
Hilstep and Molly, lovely to see your posts. You might not feel up to posting but at least you put our minds at rest by popping in.
Onwards and forwards (with the bag still on my head for another 20 minutes at least),
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
