Child gone to Uni, overpaid!

Hi
Just a quickie.
Got a lot going on in my life and my son started uni in Sept 2013.
I am now under investigation for not informing tax credit of a change of circumstance.
Reading up, I have been paid from August 13 - now for my 19yr old son £250 a month incorrectly.
I guess I will have to pay this back which is fine, but am concerned about the fines I may have.
It was an honest mistake, I just thought they would stop automatically, and as the form did say up to 20 in full time education, I thought that included Uni, which it doesn't.
So what happens now, under investigation and have been assigned a person at HMRC who is investigating?

From this recent post it does sound that they will stop it automatically unless you contact them to confirm that you are still entitled. Whether this was a fraudulant claim or an honest mistake where you did not read or understand the guidance provided, the money will need to be repaid
