Card Protection Plan Policy not Covered by Scheme of Arrangement

I believe I was mis sold this Insurance but a very long time ago (over 20 years). The Scheme of Arrangement Administrators operating from Wymondmam have written that compensation is not due seeing that the Policy was not taking out through one of the Banks/Funding Institutions who have joined the Scheme.
I eventually found out that it was taken out via a credit card issued by Lazer UK Ltd (now part of Creation Financial Services). Letters to them have been given the brush off saying that I was 'provided with all information regarding key benefits etc, I agreed to purchase which is a load of baloney.
Seeing that it related to products sold before 14.1.2005 so outside the Financial Ombudsman Servicing of Complaints does this mean I have to give it up as a bad job??
Over to you please.
