I looked on the London Gazette site and my name was there, but the entry was two weeks after my court hearing.
I did not see any notification of my early discharge on that site - do they not publish this?
I did, however, notice that the ex-landlord of my local (200 yards from house) had been declared bankrupt at about the same time as me. Whilst I can't blame him for not wanting it to be public knowledge, he DID tell everyone that he was 'selling the pub' and moving abroad.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

    The link is:

    http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/advancedSearch.asp?webType=0

Enter a postcode or part postcode. Or a town/address.

My entry was placed 7 days after the BR order.

Searching for my name doesn't work as they didn't put spaces in the correct place.

Searching for my address works though.

    EDIT: This explains it :o

Example: If your search for ‘John Smith’ fails to find the required result, try searching for ‘Smith,John’.

    No spaces in
    'Smith,John'

The page might not display properly if you're using the Firefox browser. It will however work fine with Internet Explorer. :)

As so many people who post here are really worried
about the publicity aspects of declaring themselves bankrupt it seems extremely tasteless to boast about how easy it is to find out this information and to broadcast ways of doing so. You can be as personally critical of me as you like but I genuinely found your post offensive. (And no, I'm not trying to stir trouble over the weekend, I'd no idea that the moderation worked like that.)

I have no problem with public access to knowledge and appreciate that bankruptcy, by its nature, is a public matter. I also know that there have been many posts on here where people have been really worried about other people finding out that they are bankrupt. In the past, the response on this board has been the reassuring one that the information is in very small print, at the back of the local paper and that very few people will see it.I find that a more reassuring and sensitive response than comments recently posted.

Imagine if, on a non bankruptcy related board, people had posted so gleefully about nosing into their neighbours' private affairs. Would everybody have applauded quite so readily? (And, I've been quite open about my impending bankruptcy - except to creditors!- so have no personal axe to grind.)
  • Can that be an end to this now? Savage made a post that, to be perfectly honest, I didn't quite understand either, but now she's explained it I can see where she's coming from. Oldernotwiser, you've explained why you don't think it was a fun/funny thing to do or to publicise doing on the forum, & I can see your point of view too.

Now that we know both of your viewpoints, please can both of you agree to disagree & drop the matter or take it to PM before this becomes another thread I & others have to remember to avoid. The list of those is getting longer, & one day someone's going to post a genuine query in a thread that will get missed because we've got fed up reading posts biting back at each other & are avoiding the thread completely. That's not fair on them, or anyone else who might find the information useful. Thanks.
