Hi all ,

How long will my details be held on the internet ??
for me going bankrupt etc ???

You will be listed as bankrupt until until you are discharged.

Once you are discharged your details will remain on the online register for another 3 months (marked as discharged), after which they will be removed.

It is only possible to find your details on the register by doing a manual search through the Insolvency Service site. You have to go deliberately looking for them, so they are not there for the whole internet to discover by accident.

I dont know about forever but the Information Commissioner ruled that Bankruptcy has to remain public knowledge (to protect the public) and as such the LG don't have to update their site etc. The insolvency service choose to delete us after 3 months from discharge for whatever reason. I wouldn't worry about it but I did a search on the LG website by postcode and was amazed at how many peeps I knew!

Just in case any one, either bankrupt, pre-bankrupt, or nothing at all to do with bankruptcy finds the latter part of this post offensive, my bankruptcy was horrible, I am not scaremongering, but truthfully, mine was public knowledge within 3 weeks.
My husbands work place (a college), my children's school, and my GP. Everyone I knew heard about it and I did not realise. I found it very traumatic and spent days crying and feeling !!!!!!. I had thought that the BR was on my terms, and that no one would read the local paper, but people do and they gossip and whisper. I found it mortifying.
That is why I found it so reassuring to find other bankrupts that I knew on my doorstep. Not because I am nasty or vindictive, but because I found it wonderful to not feel such a leper.

I just had a look on the website and searched the date I was made BR, my name aint there! Is that weird???
