Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with an Ampy digital electricity meter? Just done a one hour test with the main circuit breaker switched off but the meter went up by 0.9 units. Switched it on for an hour and its recorded 0.5 units. My smart meter says I've used 0.18 kWh. (for the hour switched on) Can't work it out! Got a chap from British Gas coming next week but not too sure what to think of it....

if its a small white one ampy 5962J or similar then yes they are known to go faulty, in my 9 years working with meters I have only ever found four faulty ones, and they have all been the small white ampys...
not found any other type of ampy faulty... yet!
with the main switch off the red led should come on static and stay on, if it still pulses with the switch off, its faulty...
  • Yeah it's a small white Ampy. Recording readings in the morning and evenings and it's showing more than double my smart meter reading. Red light was pulsing with the power off...

i wonder if you will get a rebate if it is indeed faulty ?
  • Are you saying that the Ampy meter is a proper "smart meter " as I have only ever seen Landys and Gyr smart meters in use so far. I also have seen the red light on solid , not flashing , when a very low wattage is still being used. Do you mean an energy monitor not a smart meter ?
